A short stroll down the road from the studio the Cottesloe beachfront has been buzzing with visitors swarming to look at the art pieces recently displayed along the sea wall and beach.
This years crop of beautiful, bold and sometimes bizarre sculptures are once again being displayed down by the sea. This is the 19th year the Town of Cottesloe has hosted this world class sculptural extravaganza.
Over 70 large scale works have adorned the area with entries from all over the world including The Czech Republic, Japan, New Zealand the U.S. Taiwan and Switzerland having been on display as well as many by established and emerging Australian artists.
It is also great to see Western Australia well represented with over thirty featured artists currently calling W.A. home.
A few seasoned veterans entered the “ Decade Club” successfully bringing their tenth entries to this iconic event.
Sculptures By The Sea attracts an estimated one hundred and eighty thousand visitors making it one of Perth’s largest free public events showing that the people of W.A. still have a healthy appetite for great art and design.
My advice would be to google each year’s event and put into your calendar. The 2024 event is 1–18 March. At this time of year Perth usually offers warm calm days, ideal for a stroll along the beach and enjoying the artistic endeavours. I would allow at least a couple of hours to take it all in and recommend purchasing a catalogue so you know who is responsible for your favourite pieces and how much they will set you back. It is probably best to avoid the obviously busy times as it can get a bit crowded and parking can be difficult. And why not take your bathers and enjoy a dip in the ocean just to finishing off your outing to perfection.
